The XX

The XX recently released a new album titled, Coexist, but this review is for their  debut album "XX".    This album was released in 2009 and at the time I remember people raving about their music and how well they were doing; however, i didnt give a listen simply because I thought i wouldnt be interested  because i thought they were an indy band.  Their music have been featured in may tv shows that I was unaware of.  Their music was also featured during the 2010 olympics.  I guess  I just had no idea because their songs can serve as background music. Just a few months ago i heard their track titled 'intro' on itunes and i got hooked instantly.

The XX are  a british pop band that formed in 08' with  a lead male and female vocalist.  This is rare these days.  Both contribute to all their songs.  Their sound is very mellow.  The keyboard and electric/base guitar and beats are prominent on all their tracks.  I cannot exactly compare their music to any other band at this point.  However, I can say they are capable of making soundtrack music.

Some of my favorite tracks include "sheter" "intro" "vcr" (more upbeat), "chrystalized", and "basic space".  there entire album is  just as catchy, though. "basic space" has an interesting sound to it but all their tracks are quite similar.   

If you enjoy mellow music and some electronic and catchy repetitive beats this definitely be something to check out.  I can imagine these tracks can be remixed and masked as mellow techno.  Normally Im not  a big fan of techno but I am a fan of electronica and they are on the bubble between the two when on weed.  the description is a bit messed up but youll know what i mean.  The chance that you have heard the XX's music is quite high, but just had no idea.  If interested in listening to some catchy tunes go and iTunes them up.  one of their new tracks are featured in the single of the week for free.  Now, go on, and give them a listen.   you wont be disappointed.  great stuff to listen to on a rainy or sunny day. so there you go. enjoy.
