THE DEAD WEATHER
Horehound
The Dead Weather is yet another band that Jack White (white stripes) has ingeniously contrived. Their sound is prominent with electric, bass, and drums - think White stripes and Raconteurs combined. The recording simple, nothing too fancy. It feels like you are sitting at a bar listening to live blues or jazz house band, but with the edge of funk/ rock. And what is the common entity here? Jack White.
With the introduction of a female vocalist, it still keeps the songs interesting not just Jack White all the time. It's a little more creative as opposed to just having Jack White's voice. Their sound is definitely edgier than his other two bands. The first single "hang you from the heavens" is an awesome track; I just love the lyrics, and I'm not even a lyrics kinda girl. "I cut like a buffalo" and "treat me like your mother" resonate quick tempos and are absolutely irresistible to the ears. The screeching guitars (very chill though; not head banging) and pounding drums have somehow managed to linger in my mind since late july. All the other tracks are chill, and have a jazzy yet funk/rock influenced ambience. If you liked the Band of Skulls' album then this is definitely something to look out for. As for which spin off band is better, the Raconteurs or the The Dead Weather? I would say The Dead Weather takes the trophy. It towers the Raconteurs.
So if you are in the mood for some funk, rock out to some great guitars and drums, and chill to some jazz, look no further. This album will rock rock your socks off! (dont know why I used "rock your socks," just go with it.)
