HOOBASTANK
Hoobastank
Here is one of the great rock/pop bands that released music during the new millennium, when bands like nickleback finally rose to fame. The year, 2001, to be exact is when this was released. Hoobastank is one squeaky clean band that rocks to pop anthems. What exactly does mean? it means that someone who cannot stand dissonance music can listen to these guys and sing along to their songs. "Crawling in the dark" is the first single that released and it instantly was in shuffle mode on my playlist. It is upbeat and poppy, but loud enough to keep my interested. "Running away" was subsequently released and dominated the radio waves. Hoobastank instantly became a top 40 hit band and listeners of all genres were interested. (You might remember them for their preceding hit "the reason," from their sophomore album which was released in 2003.) The rest of album are just as catchy. There are slower and more melodic tracks such as "hello again," "remember me," and a few other tracks. These guys' sound is the rock/pop that the new little punk poppers model after; however, they are louder and heavier.
Their follow up was not exactly as loud; as a matter of fact, it got quite a bit softer but still had that spunk. New tracks have been heard as of recently, but there success has plummeted. Top 40 has changed since 2001 and now going into 2010 their sound is not what wants to be heard. Hoobastank has soften their sound to soft rock/pop, but what the new zeitgeist is the new version of 80's pop and rocky riffs. It's simply just more poppy and electronic sounding these days and Hoobastank was unable to catch up with todays top 40 music. Longevity is hard to withstand, but regardless of their success now, this debut from Hoobastank was and still is great.
