THE DEAD WEATHER

Sea of Cowards

Sea of Cowards is the dead weather's second release.  Horehound is its predecessor and the sound and vibe is similar.  I would even call it a continuation of Horehound, which is fucking fantastic.  There is still the bluesy, jazz, rock licks.  The vibe is hard to describe until you have a good listen.  The vocals from White and Mosshart are just as prominent as the vibrant guitars and drums.  This album is more evenly divided between the two lead vocalists.  "Die by the drop" is the debut single and it is one of my favorites from this album.  "Hustle and cuss," "blue blood blue," and "the difference between us" are a few others that caught my attention right off of the first listen.  The entire album is just as great.  There is even a little bit of reggae vibe in a few tracks. The sound of calm and anger are just that good.  It is not always easy to combine the two polar opposite emotions.  Jack White always delivers when it comes to distinctive, dissonance, and creative funk.  The dead weather is definitely the best sounding spinoff from Jack White.  The record always sounds like an authentic rock project with the way its recored.  It sounds like it was recored in a dark room with a vinyl player and great musicians.  Their sound cannot get any better than this.  Well may be it can evolve, surpassing its own greatness..  I hope these guys will stick around for a good while before Jack White reunites with the white stripes.  Of course it will not hurt to hear new stripes material, but I do not think another spinoff band can be as prevalent as the dead weather.  All I have to say is another brilliant album! A tip of the captains hat to the dead weather.
