Blink 182

  This album released in 03' and it was the last album before the band went on hiatus.  Each member left and did their own things.  Spinoff bands were box car racer, transplants,  angels and airwaves, and plus 44.   It is quite obvious that none of the other bands did well.  I thought each member's band still sounded like blink 182. Even transplants, who had a different lead singer had the distinct heavy drumming of barker.

  This album has a mature sound compared to its predecessors, which is natural to any growth in a punk band.  It is softer but still has the spunk and pop/punk edge that blink 182 is known for.  As for the vocals, this album had less of Hoppus and more Delonge, which I found interesting because Hoppus used to sing more in their previous albums.  This album definitely is experimental.  Tracks like 'all of this', 'im lost without you,'  sound more like angels and airwaves with the absence of punk.  Tracks like 'always,' 'i miss you,' 'go,' and 'violence' are more like classic blink 182.  'the fallen interlude' and 'all of this' is completely experimental.  This  album was evident of their sound going in different directions and not necessarily together as band.  The two tracks mentioned earlier that departed had clearer vocals and slower tempos.  It is less likely that one could mosh to it; it is more likely that one would  wave their lighters back and forth to it. Their hiatus was not much of a surprise when it was announced.  Even with this style departure, the entire album still worked for me.  If you are a pop fan and can handle both punk and pop then this album will work.  As for pure punk fans, not so much, it probably deterred some punk/rock listeners.  

  This album worked for me because I am not a huge blink 182 fan.  Their previous albums were good, but only the ones released were on my playlists.  So if you are not a true punk/pop fan then this would work because I would consider this a bit more mellow and less punk.  Think more angels and airwaves with the occasional plus 44.
