Brothers
THE BLACK KEYS
This is the keys’ 6th studio album that was
released during the month of May, this year. The Black keys were formed in the early
millennium (2001) and they subsequently released music soon after. Their success was absent in the top 40
charts, until 2004’s Rubber Factory
and more so after attack and release came
out. Their music was featured in movies
and shows but did not catch top 40 fire until Brothers was released. Their style is bit 70’s rocky, bluesy, and
poppy. Think White stripes, Jimi
Hendricks, Thom Yorke, and Queens of the Stoneage mixed up to be a distinct
black keys sound. The vocals and style can actually pass for old school 70's blues/rock (slower tracks).
Attack and Release and Brothers is by far my favourite two albums from them. Tracks like “everlasting light” “next girl” “tightening up” and “howling for you” caught my attention from the first listen. The other tracks are pretty good as well but I needed a few listens before making it on my playlist. Not all the tracks are as catchy but they sure as well keep the entire album interesting and chillin' and upbeat. If you enjoy some of the above artists that I compared them to then definitely give them a listen. Even if you do not listen some of the above referenced, you never know it might work for you because they are garnering commercial success.
I was not surprised
that a few tracks ended up on Gossip girl.
GG always have great alternative songs.
I originally thought only popular top 40 would be on the show, but I was
totally wrong for judging the shows music because it is a teen show (great
alternative stuff). They are also on the spin cover this month!
So Black keys are a great mix of 70’s rock, blues, and pop.
